26.) Los Angeles Rams: James Pearce Jr., Edge, Tennessee
Grisak: This may seem like a strange selection since the Rams have just written Jared Fresh and also have Byron Young. However, Pearce joins the identity of the defense, which is the young pass. With fresh and young people in their place, the Rams can use Pearce as a passes corridor designated early as it becomes a full -time holder.
Analysis: I have to respect Grisak and the Rams for continuing to rely on this young and talented pass. They have the field marshal and offensive weapons on the other side. There is nothing wrong with largely investing in the position group that helps them recover the ball.
Pearce is a little less developed than most of the other edge corridors that are expected to go in the first round, but it cannot be discussed against the production and upward that it brings to a NFL team. It has the ideal length, but most teams will do it because it will add another 10-15 pounds to give the best opportunity to be a three-low player in the near future. With 245 pounds in its 6’5 picture, it already shows a surprising ability to turn the speed into power, but that same game force cannot be done not to do it constantly when playing.
In general, Pearce has an elite speed to surprise and blow blockers, but it is a little more handling than you would like, making it a very linear corridor at this time of its development. However, I think the Rams would not have a plan to make the most of it as a rookie.
