Coach’s challenge: Women’s college basketball considering video review rule

There could be a rule change that reaches female university basketball in the 2025-26 season. If approved, the coaches will train, and the hope is to improve the flow of the game.

The NCAA female basketball rules committee this week in Indianapolis and on Friday announced that they are recruiting the video review challenge of a coach for the next season. To be promulgated, the proposal must be approved by the NCAA game rules supervision panel, which meets on June 10.

The NCAA Male Basketball Rules Committee also recommended a rule of trainers challenge.

If the change of the rule is approved, the coaches can challenge the violations outside the limits, the rapes of the rear track, if a change in the possession of the team occurred before the decision of a foul in which the free throws would be a preparation player.

With the exception of whether the right player was evaluated, the referees could not start reviews about these calls, only coaches.

To make a challenge call, the coaches do not need a waiting time. However, if the coach loses the call of challenge without waiting times, his team will receive an “administrative technical lack for an excessive waiting time.”

Nicki Collen, Baylor’s chief coach and the president of the Rules Committee, explained that the change would improve the flow of the game. The challenge rule was also implemented as an experiment in the WBIT.

“The committee was worried about the rhythm of the game and the number of revisions that occurred at the end of the games,” Collen said in an NCAA statement. “By eliminating the option for officials to review the violations of the call of the limits and allow the coaches to challenge the call, increase the flow at the end of the games and at the same time allows the opportunity to obtain the correct call.”

The committee is also entering a handful of other changes in the rules, such as establishing the shooting clock in 20 seconds when the crime is awarded on its front court after a dead ball, eliminating the rule that the shirts need to be the fete fetet fetet fetet fetet fetet fetet.

In addition, if a player competes in a game for which he is supposed to be suspended, the chief coach and that player will be suspended for the next game.
