It is the simplest to do, but most Australians are loading their mobile phones and other devices with incorrect lithium ion batteries.
And our poorly dangerous recharge practices have been the catalyst for the growing number of fires of the Australian house, they have revealed the alarming data of insurance claims.
Allianz’s investigation also revealed the battery devices more commonly behind the fire fires.
He showed a variety of common domestic items, including mobile phones, gets more fires than e-scooters and electronic bicycles, which have recently been at the center of attention recently due to some high-profile domestic fires.
“It is a myth that if it does not have an e-Scooter, it does not have to worry,” said Chris Wood, emerging risks manager.

Loading a mobile phone on the bed can be risky.
Wood pointed to mobile phones as a growing cause of domestic fire because their owners do not realize the correct way in which they should be charged.
“The common issue is that people are carrying them in bed. It is not supposed to collect them on top of flammable items, but people will charge them under dams and pillows,” he said.
“The mobiles will warm up as they are loaded and heat up even more if they receive updates. Imagine that in a bed with added body heat and the electric blanket on.
“You sit where mom and dad wake up to her teenager with her bed on fire.”
Allianz states that the data showed that mobile phones were the devices that operate with batteries that caused most fires behind energy and garden tools and battery cell devices such as torches.

Mobile phone users often carry their devices with incorrect cables.
Energy and garden tools represented 38 percent of the fires caused by lithium -ion devices, while mobile phones were behind 12 percent. The devices with battery cells, such as flashlights and torches, were behind 38 percent or battery fires.
E-SCOOTERS and electronic bicycles were behind 11 percent of the fires and remote control toys and hobby devices, such as drones and children’s cars, caused 8 percent of fires.
There were a total of $ 16.1 million in insurance claims due to incidents related to the lithium battery in 2024, Allianz revealed.
Wood said that the key mistakes that those who were committing when loading their mobiles and the electric tools left the issue plugged in after the batteries were replenished.
It was also common for Australians to load their devices with average cables and loaders for different devices.

Wood said traditions frequently abused electric batteries and then loaded them in places where the fires could easily begin.
“Another common issue is that people are charged when they are to thisp. They are also the axis when something turns on and it is the neighbors who alert them about what is happening.
“With mobile phones, you would surprise you. People fall asleep with their mobiles in bed and (telephone numbers) are thrown.
“Our researchers have photos of this, half -burned beds because the phone was under flammable material and heated.
“Another common thing that happens is that people carry their phones on the ground. They return from the gym and throw their clothes on the phone, and then you are hot and moisture.
“It is not just the device. It is also the cable and the charger. People mix batteries and loaders and that is not how they are destined to be used.”

The batteries were updating with wiring failures as the most common cause of fire.
Wood said that mixing loaders and devices was particularly dangerous for energy and garden tools.
Users often bought new batteries or loaders online, either through cheap retailers or platforms such as Facebook Marketplace, without performing a realization, the thesis did not match their devices.
“They want to avoid paying $ 100 or more for a new battery and see something cheap online that will fit the nominal value, but there is no quality control and people do not know the story.
“It is better to buy a good reputation fire of a retailer.”
Some devices were also frequent objectives or abuse. “We find that special commercial tools can be handled approximately. Operations are used to hammer elements and definitely is not how they should be used.
“These tools are loaded in garages where there are no smoke detectors. They are only allowed to load not only for days, but in months. Garages will often have additional fuel, such as garbage or gasoline for the host and put the student’s hall.”
How to protect yourself
> Avoid loading items in a space that does not have a smoke detector.
> Avoid loading devices while sleeping.
> Disconnect or stop loading devices once they are completely loaded.
> Make sure the devices are treated or the view while they are loading.
