
Sailing force: Titagarh Rail Systems Shipyard in Kolkata is approved to build warships
The Rolling Titagarh Rail Systems shares manufacturer plans to build a Greenfield shipyard capable or build large vessels, both naval and commercial, as the company sees naval construction businesses as one of its future growth promoters.
The company is likely to end a location for the new shipyard in the coming months. It is exploring a site in states such as Western Bengal, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra and Gujarat.
The company has been building ships in its patio in Kolkata for almost a decade, but small.

“We were not assigning a lot of bandwidth or capital to this business. We deliver specialized vehicles and prestigious projects, but in terms of income or finals, it was a very small part of our business. Now, there is a change, in which we will be willing to go to the business of weaning,” says Chowdhary’s managing deputy director.

“We will establish a new shipyard because the existing patio in Kolkata has some geographical challenges, so we cannot build large boats there,” says Chowdhary.

In February, the company announced the formation of new verticals: naval construction and maritime systems, and security and signature systems.
The Kolkata shipyard is approved for the construction of warships by the Navy, the Coast Guard, the Ministry of Earth Sciences and the Indian Viano Corporation.
The company has designed, manufactured and delivered specialized ships, such as a fast patrol boat for the Coast Guard, a ferry passer for export to Guyana, and coastal research ships ‘Sagar Tara’ and ‘Sagar Anshika’. “In the future, we will analyze commercial naval construction, in addition to naval naval construction,” says Chowday. Vertical safety and signaling systems will develop products for railroads and subway systems in India.
As the Indian railways focus on improving the safety and signaling of the railroad, the company intends to play an important role in next year. It already has a joint business with Mámec from Italy, a global leader in this field.
