Aimed at strengthening the Indian cocoa sector through knowledge exchange, the development of skills and integration of the value chain, a national training program on Cocoa has begun at the Agricultural University of Kerala.
The objective of the 3 -day program is to equip participants with knowledge and practices updated in cocoa culture, additional value and marketing.
Officials of the state agricultural departments, the state horticulture mission, the central research institutes and the state agricultural universities of different states of India, such as Nagaland, Meghalaya, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Tamilme, Kerala.
The training program was organized by the Cocoa Research Center (CRC) of the Agricultural University of Kerala and the Cocoa and Cocoa Development Directorate (DCCD).
In his inaugural speech, Jacob John, director of extension, Kau emphasized the need for an approach led by the system in cocoa management, especially when cultivated as an intercalated crop in plantations such as Coconut and the Area of Areca. That required for integrated efforts, extension and participation of farmers to make cocoa culture more sustainable and profitable.
KN Anith, research director, Kau stressed the importance of innovations led by research in cocoa agriculture. FEMINA, director of DCCD, stressed the potential of India to meet the growing demand for cocoa in the food and confectionery industry.
Minimol JS, professor and boss, Cocoa Research Center also spoke.
Kau, CPCRI experts and representatives of the Indian Mondelez industry, Pristino and Campco cocoa separated.
