The former Secretary of Defense, Ajay Kumar, has been appointed president of the UPSC, in accordance with an order from the Ministry of Personnel of the Union.
The position of president of the Public Service Commission of the Union (UPSC) was vacant after the end of the mandate of Preeti Sudan on April 29.
Kumar’s appointment was authorized by President Droupadi Murmu, according to the order issued on Tuesday.
An official of the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) withdrawn from 1985 from the Kerala Table, Kumar, worked as Secretary of Defense from August 23, 2019 to October 31, 2022, according to its service records.
The UPSC performs civil services exams selected for the IAS, the External Service of India (IFS) and the Indian Police Service (IPS), among others. It is headed by a president and can have a maximum of 10 members.
At present, the positions of two members are vacancies in the commission.
A UPSC president is appointed for a period of six years or until he reaches 65 years of age.
