The general manager of the Jets, Darren Mouugegy, said Monday that he anticipates that the team will collect the fifth year options in Sauce Gardner, Garrett Wilson and Jermaine Johnson.
The Jets selected the three players in the first round of the NFL 2022 draft, which means that the jets now have to make a decision on whether to capture their option for the 2026 season. The jets have until May 1 to collect the option.
“We have time to make that decision,” said Mougey. “But before exercising those fifth year options in those players.”
The option for Gardner means that it will obtain a guaranteed salary of $ 20.1 million in 2026. Wilson will obtain a salary of $ 16.8 million guaranteed. Johnson obtains $ 13.4 million guaranteed.
The expectation is that Jets will have discussions with Gardner and Wilson on long -term extensions. Johnson, who broke the Achilles in week 2 last year, probably needs to show more this season to obtain an extension.
Mougey said any extension conversation will come after this week’s NFL draft.
“I’m going to overcome the draft,” said Mougey. “But in terms of contracts and extensions on any player, I will always keep him in the house. And what we will do, we will keep those deals in those discussions internally.”
