Help, I’m Starting to Root for the Zombies on ‘The Last of Us’

I’m starting to ask me if you have The last of usDespite all his glorious cinematography, heartbreaking performances and epic action, he is simply not “for me.” In addition to being one of those sad people who never experienced the rush to play original video games*, I also fight one of the central concepts of the program. That is, I do not hate zombies (or, there, I mean “infected”). In fact, I feel more and more bad for these treasures of non -dead people, infected by a fungal pest, and reduced to Fodder de Cancan in a program that really does not have real care in any significant way.

Yes, it’s true: I feel bad for zombies in The last of us.

My strange tension of empathy for these monsters formally known as humans has created a barrier for my enjoyment of the show as a whole. I wonder if I should be thinking The last of usThe heroes of the heroes while hunting an infected game. Worse, the introduction of season 2 of the “stalkers”, a new type of infected that can think, strategies and work together in search of a common goal has made my feelings even more muddy!

Why can’t I stop feeling sorry for zombies in hbos? The last of us! ???

The last of the United States 201 fungi exploits the head of man

In case you have been living outside the network in an abandoned city in New England city, a zombie apocalypse and has not heard of the successful HBO program, The last of us It is an adaptation of the Naughty Dog video game series, acclaimed by video games of the same name. The last of us It opens with pandemic caused by the Cordyceps Fungi leveling most of humanity in hours. The disease spread through contaminated flour, infecting guests and transforming them into stubborn stalls establishes a task, to bite and infect anyone who is alive.

The last of us Season 1 followed smuggler Jaded Joel (Pedro Pascal) while guiding Ellie (Bella Ramsey) of 14 years in a post-apocalyptic America. Ellie’s mother was bitten during childbirth, which makes the girl miraculously immune. After the two links on his trip, Joel refuses to allow the revolutionaries in Salt Lake City to operate in Ellie hoping to create a cure. Massaches a complete hospital to save the life of her adopted daughter. Season 2 deals with the consequences of that decision.

The last of us Season 1 does not crescendo with an epic battle between Joel, Ellie and the infected. Insead, Joel basically decided to go to a spree of massive victims, killing without abandonment, so he would have to cry the loss of Ellie. It is a deeply amoral choice. Ellie wanted to be voluntary in this cause and her sacrifice could have saved humanity. Devils, a cure could have saved the millions of infected. Instead, Joel has the blood of diseases in his hands.

Fans or The last of us Let’s say that these impossible moral options are what makes the program so convincing. This is how mutual love can force us to ignore what is right and what is wrong. Joel is noble, real, because he loves Ellie So much. Me? I wonder why we can find compassion for Joel, why not cordyceps monsters?

The last of us 201 good looks at the face of the infected

I understand why we should be afraid of the infected? Absolutely. A bite and become one of them, another monster of fungus fungus of meat in the treasure. Do I think the infected should be hated? At all. They did not have the option of infected. In addition, whether click or swelling or novel stalkers, they do not hurt humans for hatred. It is a biological imperative. No more, nothing less.

In fact, the addition of stalkers in The last of us Season 2 only seems to underline that the infected still have some humans in them under that fungal mold. Seeing the stalker carefully hunt Ellie in the abandoned grocery store humanized the infected as never before. In the same episode that Ellie laughs at taking an infected margin with a new sniper scope, this desperate female zombie is only trying to avoid the intruder to her habitat. (At least, this is how I read it).

The more and more The last of us Humanizes those infected with their behavior and the more and more the HBO program pushes their human characters to acts of pure savagery, I feel that I am not sure who is supposed to be encouraging. I care about human characters, their trips and their struggles. However, I also wonder if the final game should not only be the victorious infected. At least they are starting to work well together, you know?

The last of us Season 2 Episode 2 opens tonight in HBO and Max at 9 pm et.
