On Wednesday it was announced that the number one golfer of the world Scottie Scheffler is the first person to qualify official for the Ryder Cup team of the United States who will seek to take what is his in Bethpage Black at the end of this year.
“Scottie continues to demonstrate why he is the number 1 player in the world, showing an incredible consistency and domain week by week,” said American captain Keegan Bradley. “He is the best player of the team and I have no doubt that he will be ready and motivated in September. I could not be more excited to have him as a member of the American team.”
…
“Representing the United States at the Ryder Cup has been one of the greatest honors of my career, and I hope to do it for the third time this September,” said Scheffler. “I will do what is necessary to help our team recover the cup and I can’t wait to play in front of the passionate spectators of New York in Bethpage Black.”
This is the third consecutive appearance of the Ryder Cup for Scheffler and its second in the American floor. Scottie made her debut in the event in 2021 when the United States team won at Whistling Straits, an issue that I spoke in part with Jason Day about this week.
It was on that last Sunday that Scottie “surprised” the world knocking Jon Rahm in singles. Looking back, obviously, we know a lot about Scottie, but that was really the beginning of the career he is currently in the middle.
Time will tell who Captain Keegan Bradley sees and chooses Jin Scotte as the rest of the season takes place.
