Opinion: An Interview with Mary Fisher

All people have the same rights. Everyone has the right to live, be free, feel safe and hear. Sometimes, words are not easy when we go through difficult situations. But some people dare to speak out loud about what are happening and become an inspiration for others.

Mary Fisher is that son of a person. She became a vocal defender of HIV/AIDS prevention, education and treatment of people who live with HIV/AIDS after acquiring the virus of her second spouse. Fisher’s historical speech before the Republican Convention in 1992 is especially notable. “One of the best American speeches of the twentieth century” is how some have praised the 1992 speech.

In restless silence (restless silence: an activist seeks justice and courage in a life of change), his new book, tells his story of living with AIDS, and at the same time, he is trying to inspire others to find the section. Fisher says that awkward silence is my art, my heart, my story.

Read your interview for CEOWORLD magazine.

Q: What has you taught your diagnosis of AIDS over the years?

Mary Fisher: He taught me to hug my children (and now grandson) and my friends every day. He opened doors from all over the world because, tragicular, AIDS has bone and remains a scourge in all nations of the earth. He was a severe teacher in some way, but he also introduced me to the heroes with unmatched courage, think of Larry Kramer, and the reality that we are now two generations separated from the epidemic of AIDS and public consciousness. Given that division, and the oblivion that has surprised me, I need to endure the whiteness to those who lived, suffered and died.

Q: What forced you to write an awkward silence at this time?

Mary Fisher: I moved to Los Angeles just before Covid-19 hit and immediately isolated me. I had my family nearby, in the beginning, I still felt totally vulnerable. Duration The months and years that Pandemia lasted, I had time to reflect on my life. It occurred to me that perhaps my life still had a purpose, and that this purpose was to give voice to those who remain without voice through this book.

Q: What do you expect readers to take away the awkward silence: an activist seeks justice and courage about a life of change?

Mary Fisher: My main message is that we must be willing to finish our silence when we see injustice, so that silence does not become complicity. This is the main theme of the book, and it comes with my hope that people are willing to stand up, intensify and speak.

Q: You talk true to power, give voice to the voiceless and have transformed your life into a purpose and service. How does that feed your soul?

Mary Fisher: Talking to others, no matter how big or small the group is one of the most satisfactory experiences I have. I missed being able to speak with groups of people who turned Covid-19 and I am grateful to resume that part of my life. Give me a pulpit and preach; Show my way to the stage and talk. With the isolation of the pandemic, this work, this Bearing witness, was arrested, and I have received his return.

Q: A part of the proededs of inquiable silence will be donated to Project Angel Food, which you are on your board. Has philanthropy always been important for you?

Mary Fisher: Yes, I have always believed that those who have resources to help those who are not obliged to do so. It is not just a matter of charity; It is a matter of justice.

As Marian Wright Edelman says, the service is the rent we pay for being. It is the very purpose of life, and it is not something you do in your free time.
