According to the reports, the Trump administration is considering a plan to transfer a million Palestinians from Gaza, approximately half of the current population, Libya and resettle them there.
NBC News reported Friday:
The Trump administration is working on a plan to permanently relocate up to 1 million Palestinians from the Gaza Strip to Libya, five people said with knowledge of the effort to NBC News.
The plan is under a consultation serious enough for the administration to have discussed it with Libya’s leadership, two people with direct knowledge of the plans and a former US official said.
In exchange for the resettlement of the Palestinians, the Administration would potentially release Libya billions of dollars of funds that the United States froze more than a decade ago, those three people said.
Gaza has been a persistent source of regional instability, an incubator of Islamist extremism that depends largely on international aid, at least for the majority of the population. (Terrorist leaders have become billionaires by diverting local taxes and global help money).
The Administration denied the NBC News report, but President Trump has talked about the relocation of Gaza residents, at least for several decades, while discouraging and rebuilding the territory.
Trump has said that the United States intends to control Gaza and turn it into a lighthouse of freedom and prosperity, once Israel defeats Hamas. Israel launched on Friday “Operation Gideon’s Charmots” to detect Hamas.
