AI video startup Moonvalley lands $53M, according to filing

Approximately one month after Moon Valley, a startup based in Los Angeles that develops AI tools for video creation, said he obtained $ 43 million in new funds, the company has raised more, according to a presentation before the SEC.

The presentation, presented Thorsday, reveals that Moon Valley really landed (so far) around $ 53 million in total of a group of 14 unidentified investors.

The presentation indicates that it is an additional $ 10 million in cash, instead of a completely new round. It brings to the total company to approximately $ 124 million, estimates Pitchbook, following the heels of the seed round of $ 70 million from Moon Valley last November. MoonValley declined to comment.

The wide availability of tools to build video generators has led to such explosion of suppliers that the space is saturating. Startups such as Runway, Light Tricks, Genmo, Pika, Higgsfield, Kling and Luma, as well as technological giants such as OpenAi, Alibaba and Google, are launching models to a fast clip. In many cases, little distinguishes a model from another.

The MoonValley Marey model, built in collaboration with a new AI animation study, sacrifices customization options such as camera controls and fine grain movement and can generate “HD” clips up to 30 seconds long. Monalley states that it is also a lower risk than other video-aluation models from a legal perspective.

But where Moon Valley tries to differentiate himself, hence the high interest of VC, is in the data he is using to train his models, as well as the safeguards in his video creation tools.

Many generative video startups train models in public data, some of which have invariable copyright. These companies argue that the doctrine for fair use protects the practice, but that is that the holders of detained rights have complaints and the presentation of cessation and withdrawals.

Moon Valley says he is working with the partners for hand license arrangements and packing videos in data sets that the company then buys. The approach is similar to Bria and Adobe, the last of which acquires content for the training of creators through their patented adobe stock platform.

MoonValley is also creating an interface for his model. The company’s software, which has publicly previews, has a storyboard and clip adjustment tools, revealed the Moonvalley co -founders in recent interviews. Marey can generate videos not only of text indications but also of sketches, photos and other video clips, says Moon Valley.

Naeem Talukdar, who previously led the growth of the product in Zapier, founded MoonValley with former Deepmind Mateusz Malinowski and Mik Binkowski scientists. John Thomas joined as the director of Operations of Moon Valley: he and Talukdar had founded another startup, Draft, several years ago. Moon Valley also has the head of Asteria Bryn Mooser as co -founder.

Many artists and creators are understandingly many of the videos generators, since they threaten to change the film and television industry. A 2024 study in charge of the Animation Guild, a union that represents Hollywood animators and cartoonists, estimates that 2026 will interrupt more than 100,000 film, television and animation works based in the USA.

Moon Valley intends to allow creators to request that their content be eliminated from their models, allow customers to eliminate their data at any time and sacrifice a compensation policy to protect their users from copyright challenges.

Unlike some “without filter” video models that easily insert a person’s similarity into the clips, Moon Valley also undertakes to build railings around his tools. Like OpenAi Sora, Monalley’s models will block some content, such as NSFW phrases, and WAN will allow users to ask them to generate videos of specific people or celebrities.

“We found Moon Valley to make generative video technology that works for filmmakers and creative professionals,” MoonValley wrote in a blog post in March. “That means addressing fear and distrust, as well as solving technical problems that prevent generative AI being a realistic tool for professional production.”
