The gas development projects in India with an early production of 3.5 billion cubic meters (BCM) per year during the medium term reached the duration of the final investment decision (FID) 2024, said a report from the forum of gas exporting countries (Gercf).
Duration The last calendar year, the fourth importer of liquefied natural gas (LNG) of the world also brought online more than a small boxes of gas with an initial combined production of around 1.8 BCM.
“Twenty -one gas development projects in India reached the FID stage, with a complete 3.5 BCM per year during the medium term,” said the annual GCF gas market report by 2025.
FID is the final stage in a project where it is determined that the target processes with it or closes the project down.
The report indicated that a total of 13 new relatively small gas fields occurred in 2024, with an initial combined production that reaches 1.8 BCM and the 3 BCM expected plateau production annually. All newly commissioned fields are conventional gas fields.
“In the short term, India, production is expected to increase, driven by the offshore sector,” said the GCF report.
Greater production
The annual gas production of India experienced an increase of 3.5 percent, which reached 33.8 BCM in 2024. This growth was mainly driven by a government initiative to rejuvenate the production of mature gas fields, which led to a noticax projection, together, together, particularly offshore, the report said.
The majority of the gas production of India came from conventional gas fields, which represent 93 percent of the total, while 4 percent of coal bed method (CBM), mainly in the West Bengal field and 3 percent of narrow gas fields, he said.
“Offshore production represented 71 percent of the total gas production; this has been that it has been that it has been that it has been that it has been that it has been that it has been that it has been that it has been that it has been that it has been the one that has been the”, “,”, “,”, “,”, “has done it.”, “Is.”, “It has been the hans.” “,”, “has.”
The informed gas reserves in India witnessed a decrease in the last five years, to stand at 1.14 billion cubic meters (TCM), and most are conventional proven gas reserves.
This was mainly driven by a small number of new gas discoveries in India. In addition, India is in possession of a considerable volume of technical resources of recoverable shale gas, estimated at 2.15 TCM. These volumes are not yet exploited and need extensive development studies for exploitation.
Adopt LNG
The report noted that India stands out among other countries in its approach to adopt LNG for the transport sector.
“Although the country currently has less than 1,000 trucks that operate with LNG, the Government aims to have a third of the truck fleet that is executed in LNG in the next five to seven years,” he added.
The high dependence of India of oil imports, which exceeds China’s, adds an additional impulse to this transition, he added.
To support this objective, the Government focuses on expanding the LNG fuel replenishment infrastructure, which remains limited, and is assigning imported LNG trucks that IDLs by Imported GNLs.
